Here is a 1199 panigale (the source of the XL-sport's engine) on the dyno....mmmm tasty once it gets wound up.
Here is a guy on a 300kph blast (186mph)....nice sound....who knows how fast it will really go as the speedo dashes out at 300...as if 295 is acceptable or something.
Here is an on board ride through a nice street in the country.....tasty as well.
this car will, if fitted with this engine, attain a legendary sound of it's own and the handling will make it a perfect twisty road car. It will most likely be as intoxicating to the senses as possible. Custom exhausts will make the noise even more wonderful, and a boost kit will surely follow. (I wonder what a Eaton supercharger will sound like bolted to these sounds.) I wonder if Ferrachi will become a VW tuning company for this engine?
Tuning for the DuckWagen.
Downside? Depends on what you want that day. I could see, a Ducati exhaust or more open exhaustt system fitted, this noise become incredibly intrusive however If I am inside the car all closed up, it could very well be magical. ENJOY!

No kidding! A nice fat sound. Specs on the engine are 195hp and 95 lbs torque. Those are Honda VTEC numbers :)....it worked for the integra, it should work for this thing even better because lightness.

im a little concerned about the engine, seeings as how they are keeping the dsg, will they have to drop the redline and fatten up the torque curve to limit shaft speed? I hope not.

The last time I used a V-twin, it sucked (SV650), so I know the VW XL will be unbearable to drive.

I'm sure your seat won't be bolted on top of the engine. I'm sure VW will do something for isolation...mounts, etc. It's on my mind as well. I'd rather see them use the Desmosidici v4 motor.
Ears would bleed inside and out. Heaven

What I meant was the unforgiving power from the V-twin. Stalling, anyone? Unless an auto is involved, I am not touching a V-twin with a clutch.

I get it now. However, this does have significantly more torque, and VW won't let this thing get produced without a flywheel heavy enough to prevent that from happening. It would be interesting to see the end result.

Or they could do a gear reduction before the transmission like the Miatabusa does.
